Organic FAQ's
1. What makes organic products different?
- No pesticides or herbicides
- No synthetic fertilizers
- No antibiotics
- No hormones
- No genetically modified crop seed
2. What do these products have more of?
- Higher levels of omega-3's and essential fatty acids
- More antioxidants such as vitamin E and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid)
- Leaner meat
- More pleasing flavor, which does not need heavy sauces
- Heritage breeds intrinsically provide better texture and quality of meat
3. What makes us grassfed?
- We use a rotational pasture system which includes all our animals, to
the benefit of both the pasture and the animals.
- This also increases the health benefits of the meat for the consumer,
since they contain less fat. Higher fat products usually derive from excessive
grain feeding on conventional farms.
3. How are organic farms run differently than conventional ones?
- Livestock predominantly grass-fed, which is healthier for all
- Uses less fossil fuels since the animals eat more grass and less farmed
crops
- Uses crop rotation to reduce erosion and control pests
- Uses cover crops to control weeds
- Resembles farming as it was at the turn of the century
- Includes an extensive inspection from our certifier, NOFA, where they
survey every parcel of land and all records of products used on cows and
land. They assure the consumer that the quality they expect is present.
